Anteaters Selected Seventh In AVCA Preseason Poll

IRVINE, Calif. – UC Irvine was ranked seventh in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division I-II Men's Coaches Top-15 Preseason Poll announced Thursday.
The Anteaters, who were 20-7 overall last year, return 11 letterwinners from the 2017 roster, including All-American middle blocker Scott Stadick. The sophomore was named MPSF Freshman of the Year as well as VolleyballMag.com Freshman of the Year after ranking fifth in the country in blocks (1.19) and sixth in hitting percentage (.421) a year ago.
Defending champion Ohio State was ranked No. 1, garnering 19 first-place votes and 361 points, while Long Beach State claimed second after collecting 345 points with four first-place votes. BYU (326 points, 1 first-place vote) and UCLA (297 points, 1 first-place vote) followed. Hawaii is fifth (274) and Lewis sixth (248 points) preceding the Anteaters who had 204 points.
UCI begins its first season as a member of the Big West Conference, opening the year in Provo, UT facing No. 6 Lewis on Jan. 5 and No. 13 Loyola-Chicago on Jan. 6.
