Makayla Wolfe Racks Up Big West Weekly Awards
November 27, 2017 | Women's Volleyball
IRVINE, Calif. --- With a career night in UC Irvine's regular season finale, middle blocker Makayla Wolfe earned the dual awards of Big West Women's Volleyball Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week.
The sophomore becomes the first Big West player to earn both honors in the same week.
Wolfe notched a team and career-high 16 kills in a four-set win over UC Santa Barbara. She also tallied a match and season-best seven blocks as the Anteaters improved to 22-7 overall, the program's most wins since 2009 when that squad also registered 22 wins.
A first-time honoree for both awards, Wolfe swung at a .536 clip as her 16 kills came on just one error in 28 attempts. She chipped in two digs for good measure.
UCI, which finished third in the Big West, the highest finish for the club since 2009, advanced to the postseason for the first time since 2004. The Anteaters will open up the NIVC on Tuesday against Sacramento State.
