SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Senior Lovre Milos scored the game-winner with 34 seconds remaining as No. 6 UC Irvine defeated No. 10 UC Santa Barbara, 10-9 in a Golden Coast Conference game at the Campus Pool.

UCI snapped a three-game losing streak and improves to 11-7 overall and 2-1 in the conference. UCSB is 9-10 on the year and 0-3 in the GCC.

Senior Kyle Trush led the Anteaters with three goals. Brother Jack Trush and Fynn Schuetze added two goals, while Milos, Antoine Lena, Jon Polos each contributed a goal in the win. Lena and Robby Stiefel topped UCI with two assists and three steals.

Goalkeeper Matej Matijevic had 15 saves and four steals in the cage.

UC Santa Barbara got on the board first with a goal at 7:23, but Fynn Schutze answered quickly with a power play goal at 6:50. The teams would trade goals again, this time with Kyle Trush powering a goal home for the Anteaters, 2-2. Shane Hauschild would score his third consecutive goal, giving the Gauchos the 3-2 advantage after the first eight minutes.

It took a while for UCI to score in the second period, but when they did, they exploded for three unanswered goals by Antoine Lena (3:50), Jon Polos (2:32) and Jack Trush (1:56) to take a 5-3 lead in to the half.

Hauschild scored again at 6:21 to inch UCSB to 5-4 before Kyle Trush added his second goal of the day on a pass from Antoine Lena at 3:47, 6-4. Schuetze added another on a man-advantage at 2:11 from a Brendan Duffy assist. Jack Trush used a pass from Polos to score with 21 seconds left then Cole Brosnan had a goal for the Gauchos at the buzzer to send the teams in to the final quarter with UCI leading 8-6.

A goal by UCSB's Jacob Halle at 5:52, narrowed the margin to 8-7. Following a UCSB exclusion and Anteater timeout, Kyle Trush converted with a goal at 2:40 to extend the cushion. A penalty shot by Hauschild at 2:16 was followed by a goal from Reed Cotterill to knot the game at 9-9 with 1:22 remaining. A power play goal by Lovre Milos from Schuetze was the game-winner with 34 seconds left.
