Four Scores Get Seventh Win for UC Irvine

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --- The Anteaters completed the Central Coast trip taking home all six points thanks to a 4-1 win over UC Santa Barbara Sunday afternoon in Harder Stadium.

The scoring got started early with a fourth minute score from Noel Baham heading home a Sydney Carr cross to put UCI (7-3-3, 2-0-0) up, 1-0. The duo would reverse roles in the 33rd minute as Baham fed Carr doubling the lead to 2-0.

Maddie Newsom did her part with a pair of first half saves to keep the lead at 2-0, but UC Santa Barbara (would get it going in the second half as Christine Maurer cut the lead to 2-1 in the 60th minute.

UC Irvine would quickly push the lead back to two as Claire Grouwinkel got behind the defense and beat UCSB keeper Brittney Rogers slotting home her first career goal to make it 3-1 in the 64th minute.

UCI added a fourth goal for good measure in the 86th minute as Sydney Carr put home a second off a corner kick through the keeper's hands and in for the Olimpico to put the match away, 4-1.

Maddie Newsom matched her offense with four saves on the afternoon. Rogers on the other end had six saves and was bailed out by her backline on another.

Contributing on three of the four goals each were Sydney Carr and Noel Baham. Carr put up her first career brace adding an assist for five points on the day. Baham assisted twice and added a goal for four points. Grouwinkel's goal as mentioned was the first of her career.

The Anteaters have now won three straight matches and taken the first two Big West matches and all six possible points. UC Irvine will return home for a Thursday, Black and Blue Rivalry Series match vs. Long Beach State starting at 7:00 p.m.
