'Eaters Defeat Cal Lutheran, 11-5, at Triton Invitational

LA JOLLA, Calif. --- Sophomore Jack Trush scored a career-high four goals to lead eighth-ranked UC Irvine over Cal Lutheran, 11-5, at the Triton Invitational in La Jolla Saturday afternoon.

Junior Christian Macias and freshman Bryant Joudrie added two goals for UCI, which improved to 1-1 on the season.

The 'Eaters, who led 5-3 at halftime, outscored the Kingsmen 4-1 in the third quarter to break the game open as Sven Davidson and Macias scored the first two goals of the period to put UCI up 7-3.

Goals by Joudrie and Trush late in the quarter extended the lead to 9-4, with Trush and Brock Ivancovich scoring fourth-period goals to seal the win.

Junior goalie Matej Matiejevic had 11 saves in the victory.

UCI returns to action next Saturday with a non-conference game at Stanford (1:00 p.m.) before competing in the Inland Empire Classic at La Verne next Sunday, facing Pomona-Pitzer at 12:00 p.m. and Whittier at 3:00 p.m.
