SANTA CLARA, Calif. --- UC Irvine and Santa Clara battled it out in Stevens Stadium Saturday Night going the Broncos' way, 1-0.
LMU (3-2) got the match's only goal in the 66th minute off an own goal.
UCI (1-4) had a solid handle of the match up to that point. The 'Eaters took five of the seven first half shots and even hit the post in the early moments of the second off Randall McDermott's shot.
The Broncos fired back to three consecutive shots, and finished up the match nearly even in shots as UCI took the ultimate advantage, 8-7.
UCI turned three on target that Bronco keeper Dakota Havlick took care of. He even saved an own goal shot of his own in the 85th minute which would have evened things up. Elliot Farmer made just one save on his end.
The loss drops the Anteaters to 1-4 on the year, but they come back home where they've collected their lone win so far starting with a Wednesday 7:00 p.m. match on Sept. 14 against SoCal foe, LMU.
