Elizabeth Cotociu placed first in the heptathlon's 800 meters Saturday

LONG BEACH, Calif. --- UC Irvine's Elizabeth Cotociu and Melanie Speech completed the heptathlon at the Big West Conference Multi Championships Saturday.
Cotociu, a sophomore, finished 10th with 4,432 points and Speech, a senior, was 13th with 4,192 following the second day of competition at Long Beach State's Jack Rose Track.
Cotociu was the top finisher in the 800 meters with a time of 2:16.63 and she had other marks of 17-9 in the long jump and 87-8 in the javelin throw.
Speech placed second in the javelin with a throw of 127-3 and she had marks in Saturday's other two events of 16-6 ½ in the long jump and 3:01.56 in the 800 meters.
Senior Melanie Speech finished 13th in the Big West heptathlon.
Riley Cooks of Long Beach State won the heptathlon with 5,414 points.
The Big West Conference Track & Field Championships are Friday and Saturday, also at Jack Rose Track.
