Irvine, Calif. – Seven Anteaters were named to All-Big West teams for their 2016 performances.

Sebastian Heim and Nico Mertens earned a place on the singles first team for the second year-in-a-row. Heim completed the season with a 10-3 record in the No. 1 singles spot and climbed up to No. 55 in the ITA rankings the week of February 23.

Mertens split his time between the No. 1 and 2 singles spots with an 11-7 dual record with a 3-1 performance in the Big West. One of the senior's wins was against then ranked No. 108 Alec Adamson of UC Davis on April 23, who was named 2016 Big West Player of the Year.

Other singles awards include newcomer Luca Marquard and senior Tyler Pham who earned honorable mention honors.  Pham was also given honorable mention in doubles with team partner and senior Jonathan Hammel. Pham has previously claimed three singles and two doubles awards in his UC Irvine career while Hammel has snagged All-Big West honors four times in doubles and once in singles.

Named to the doubles first team for the second year was duo Justin Agbayani and Jonathan Poon. The pair played in the top spot for the majority of the season and earned five wins at No. 1.

UC Irvine wrapped up the season with a 17-9 record in the Big West Semifinal match.
