
'Eaters Record 5 Wins at Big West Challenge

FULLERTON, Calif. --- UC Irvine posted five event wins Friday in the 24th annual Big West Challenge at the Titan Track Complex in Fullerton.
Junior Lloyd Sicard broke his own meet record in winning the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.84 seconds. UCI's Oliver Pham placed fifth in 14.88.
Cameron Vaca won the 400-meter hurdles in 52.15 and Brandon Howard was fourth in 52.83.
Lawrence O'Hara earned first place in the shot put with a mark of 54-4 for the No. 9 mark in Anteater history. Matt Seawright finished second at 53-2 ¼
The discus throw also went to UCI as Omar Valenzuela won the event with a mark of 156-3 and Seawright was second at 153-6.
Duane Solomon was runner-up in the 200 meters with a season-best time of 21.75 and Antwon Parker was fifth in 22.38.
In the 800 meters, Isaiah Thompson placed second in 1:51.17 and Jake Williams followed in third at 1:51.89, both season-best best times.
Matt Dispenza finished second in the high jump at 6-2 ¾ while Branden Randall (9:34.90) and Jon Rodriguez (9:58.80) were third and fourth, respectively, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Solomon was third in the 100 meters in 10.91 and Michael Hamill fifth in 11.00.
Isaiah Jewett registered a third-place time of 48.28 in the 400 meters and Paul Resong was fifth in 48.80.
Seawright was third in the hammer throw with a mark of 189-5 and David Aguilar placed fifth in the 1500 meters in 3:56.76.
UCI's 4x400 relay of Parker, Jewett, Resong and Vaca finished first in 3:13.56 and the 4x100 relay of Sicard, Solomon, Howard and Parker placed second in 41.11.
The 'Eaters finished third in the team competition with 151 ½ points. Long Beach State won the meet with 165 ½ points and UC Santa Barbara was second with 161 and Cal State Fullerton placed fourth with 133.
UCI competes in the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Thursday and Friday (April 14-15) and the Beach Invitational at Long Beach State Friday and Saturday (April 15-16).
