Los Angeles, Calif. – UC Irvine (14-6) defeated No. 68 Loyola Marymount (9-7) overcoming an early deficit to surge in singles earning the 4-2 win.
LMU took the early lead with wins at the Nos. 1 and 2 spots to earn the doubles point leaving flight three unfinished.
UC Irvine came out strong in singles with Nico Mertens making quick work of his match defeating Cristobal Rivera 6-1, 6-1, tying up the score 1-1.
Tyler Pham continues to play well recording his eighth match win in a row. The senior fell behind in both sets only to come back and win the match 6-4, 6-4 over LMU's Joat Farah giving the 'Eaters a 2-1 lead.
The Lions earned a point as Lukas Moenter defeated Jonathan Hammel 7-5, 6-1 at flight five. The Anteaters took the advantage back as No. 6 in the lineup Vatsal Bajpai won in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 over Luke Bohuslav.
No. 3 Luca Marquard traded off games with Errol Smith but ended on top in both sets 7-5, 6-4 to clinch the match for the 'Eaters leaving flight one unfinished and a final score of 4-2.
UC Irvine will return home to host No. 73 Cal Poly on Saturday (April 9) at Newport Beach Tennis Club at 1:00 p.m.
