UC Irvine Eliminated in Big West Quarterfinal

Indian Wells, Calif. – UC Irvine came into the Big West Championship Quarterfinal hoping to build off the momentum of their end-of-season wins, but came up short losing to Hawai'i 4-0.

The Anteaters first squared off in doubles with the Rainbow Wahine falling at flights one and two as the 'Bows earned the doubles point. No. 1 pair Sarah Gong and Mazy Watrous were defeated by Paulina Petriskova and Klara Pribylova, 6-1. No. 2 duo Vivien Dvali and Taylor LeFridge lost their first doubles set since teaming up, 6-3, to Roxanne Resma and Cindy Nguyen. Play at the No. 3 spot went unfinished.

UC Irvine was working from behind 1-0, to start singles. Hawai'i continued to press hard as No. 5 Watrous was defeated by Pribylova, 6-2, 6-1 and No. 2 Dvali lost to Marina Hruba 6-3, 6-0.

LeFridge battled in the No. 3 spot winning a tie-breaker in her first set against Sarah Gealer. The junior would not complete the match as Hawai'i clinched the fourth and final point at flight 6 as Andrea Duva succumbed to Petriskova 6-2, 6-0.

The Anteaters wrap up their season with a 6-15 overall record and 4-5 with Big West Conference opponents.
