STALLING THE STAGS

UC Irvine (15-7, 2-2) hosted Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (19-3) in a 6-1 victory last Saturday. The Anteaters started the match against the No. 3 Division III Stags taking two out of three sets in doubles to earn the first point as No. 2 duo Justin Agbayani and Jonathan Poon and No. 3 pair Caryl Hernandez and Luca Marquard won their sets.

UCI came out firing in singles winning the first set in all six flights. This season the 'Eaters are 74-4 on matches when they win the first set.

UC Irvine earned the next five points in straight set wins at flights two through six. The Anteaters have tallied 65 straight set wins in singles for 2016.

Wins included No. 2  Marquard (6-3, 6-4), No. 3 Tyler Pham (6-0, 6-2), No. 4 Agbayani (7-5, 6-3), No. 5 Jonathan Hammel (6-3, 6-1) and No. 6 Vatsal Bajpai (6-3, 6-2).

No. 1 Nico Mertens battled Skyler Butts eventually falling in the third set 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.

BULLDOGS AND AGGIES

UC Irvine will hit the road heading up through California with their first stop in Fresno to compete against Fresno State (8-14). The Bulldogs have been busy in their conference, with losses in their last five matches against Mountain West opponents.

The Bulldogs boast a strong doubles duo in nationally ranked No. 70 Mantas Bugailiskis and Euan McIntosh who are 10-3 in dual action.

The squads met last season where Fresno State defeated UCI 4-3.

The Anteaters will end the regular season and conference play at No. 74 UC Davis (15-6, 2-2) on Saturday (April 23). The Aggies last two matches have been against Big West ranked opponents No. 50 UC Santa Barbara and No. 65 Cal Poly where they were defeated 6-1 and 4-3, respectively.

UCD player Alec Adamson sits at No. 108 in ITA singles rankings. Adamson has spent half the season in the No. 1 spot on the Aggie's line-up and holds an 11-8 overall dual record between the No. 1 and 2 spots.

The 'Eaters defeated the Aggies in their last meeting 6-1, last season.
