Irvine, Calif. – UC Irvine (4-14, 2-4) started strong in doubles and continued to win in singles to take the 5-2 win over Cal Poly (3-13, 1-6).
Building off the momentum of their doubles win in their match on Saturday, the Anteaters won the doubles point for the early 1-0 lead. No. 2 duo Vivien Dvali and Taylor LeFridge quickly earned the win over Abigail Bacharach and Molly Reed, 6-1. Sarah Gong and Mazy Watrous ensured the point when they defeated Ilana Oleynik and Zoe Oedekerk at flight one, 6-4.
The 'Eaters continued to press forward when Dvali took singles flight two 6-1, 6-2 over Bryn Bacharach. The sophomore continues to play well with a three-match win streak.
No. 6 Molly Reed earned a point for the Mustangs as she defeated Cassidy Branstine 6-4, 6-2. Sarah Gong answered back for the Anteaters with a 6-4, 6-2 win at flight one over Zoe Oedekerk, giving UC Irvine a 3-1 lead.
Watrous came back at the No. 4 spot to win her second set and force a third but ultimately lost to A. Bacharach 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 as Cal Poly got closer to closing the gap 3-2.
LeFridge clinched it for UCI with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Oleynik at flight three and No. 5 Andrea Duva earned the Anteaters a fifth point when she won in a match tie-breaker 6-2, 2-6, 5-5, 10-5 over Dane Joubert.
UC Irvine continues with conference play hosting CSUN on Saturday (April 16) at 11:00 a.m.
