LA JOLLA, Calif. --- UC Irvine showed its strength in the throwing events with a trio of victories at the All-UC Meet in La Jolla Saturday.

Dazhana Bauer-Jackson set a new school record in winning the hammer throw with a mark of 175-0 and Bridget Devaney, the former record-holder, placed second at 171-6.

Elizabeth Akindele won the shot put at 43-10 ¾ and Melanie Speech was runner-up at 43-9 ¾.  Those are the fourth and fifth-best marks, respectively, in the UCI record book.

Barbara Coward earned first in the discus throw with a mark of 158-10, the No. 5 mark in Anteater history.

Crystal Lizaola placed second in the 800 meters in 2:15.70, Rebecca Garcia was third in the 1500 meters (4:48.37), Ariel Cheng finished third in the pole vault (11-6 ¼) and Speech was third in the javelin throw with a mark of 131-0.

The Anteaters finished third with 83 ½ points.  UC Santa Barbara placed first in the meet with 169 ½ and UC San Diego was third with 123.

UCI hosts Long Beach State, Army and Cerritos College in the Anteater 4-Way next Saturday, with field events starting at 9:00 a.m. and running events at 12:00 p.m.
