Claremont, Calif. – UC Irvine took down Pomona-Pitzer 14-2 this afternoon in the 2016 Convergence Tournament at Pomona-Pitzer's Haldeman Pool.
Kelli Baumgardner and Emily Carlson each had a hat trick with two of Baumgardner's goals scored during the final minute and sixteen seconds of the game.
The match remained scoreless for the first six minutes, but UCI scored four goals before the first quarter was over as Mary Brooks, Natalie Seidemann, Keana Eldridge and Baumgardner each put one in the net.
The second period started much as the first before Brooks put one on the board three minutes before the end of the first half followed up with a goal by Carlson.
The Anteaters scored five in the third quarter and the Sagehens answered back with one of their own as the 'Eaters led 11-1 heading into the final period.
Pomona-Pitzer was the first to score in the fourth quarter, but that would be their final goal as UC Irvine scored three more times including one by Baumgardner with twenty seconds left on the clock.
UC Irvine is back at home Saturday (March 5) to square off against San Diego State at 1:00 p.m. at the Anteater Aquatics Complex.
