Fresno, Calif. – UC Irvine was defeated by No. 38 Fresno State 7-0 at the Bulldogs' Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
Fresno State came out strong sweeping doubles and earning the first point. No. 1 duo Stephanie Hazell and Mazy Watrous battled with nationally ranked No.19 pair Mayar Sherif Ahmed and Rana Sherif Ahmed losing 6-2.
The Bulldogs did not let up in singles taking the wins at all flights. At flight three, Watrous swept the first set followed with R. Sherif Ahmed taking the second to force a third where Ahmed came up with the victory, 0-6, 6-0, 6-1.
Sarah Gong matched up with nationally ranked No. 36 M. Sherif Ahmed at flight one. The sophomore competed until the end with Ahmed, taking the second set to force a third and match-tie breaker where Ahmed narrowly came up with the win, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7).
UC Irvine continues on the road in a conference match-up at Cal State Fullerton on Saturday (April 2) at 11:00 a.m.
