Irvine, Calif. – No. 57 UC Irvine competed in their fourth match of the week with a 6-1 win over the Georgetown Hoyas (4-6).
The 'Eaters captured the doubles point and the first singles point at No.2 to take the early 2-0 lead. Georgetown came back with a point of their own at the No.3 spot, but UCI continued to win the remainder of the singles flights.
In doubles action, the Hoyas' Daniel Khanin and Mac Rechan defeated Luca Marquard and Caryl Hernandez 6-2 at flight three. The Anteaters' No. 2 pair Jonathan Hammel and Tyler Pham went on to take their set 7-5 to split the matches. Justin Agbayani and Jonathan Poon completed doubles with a 6-4 win over Jordan Portner and Mike Chen to give UCI the doubles point.
Pham won his singles match in straight sets at No. 2 while Georgetown's Mike Chen defeated Hammel 6-3, 6-2 at flight three.
The Anteaters continued to earn points in singles as Agbayani closed out flight four with a win in straight sets and Marquard earned the 6-1, 6-4 win over Marco Lam at the No.1 spot.
No. 5 Vatsal Bajpai won the tie-breaker in his first set and completed the second defeating Portner 7-6 (7-5), 6-1. While Poon finished the match with a win at flight six 6-3, 6-4.
The 'Eaters close out the home stretch winning all four matches they played this week and moving to 11-5 on the season. UC Irvine has a break in action and then are on the road at Hawai'i March 24 at 1:00 p.m.
