'Eaters Cut Down Lumberjacks, 7-0

 

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine improved to 3-0 at home this season with a 7-0 victory over Northern Arizona at Anteater Tennis Stadium Friday afternoon.

Justin Agbayani and Jonathan Poon won 6-2 at No. 1 doubles while Tyler Pham and Jonathan Hammel earned a 6-3 victory at No. 3 to claim the doubles point for UCI.

Sophomore Sebastian Heim defeated NAU's Tim Handel 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles as the 67th-ranked Heim remains undefeated this season with seven sweeps.

Pham, Luca Marquard and Vatsal Bajpai each won their singles matches in straight sets.  Nico Mertens won the first set 6-0 at No. 2 singles before NAU's Lucas Taylor retired.  Hammel lost the first set at No. 6 singles before closing out Jackson Lee 6-1, 6-1.

The Anteaters improved to 6-3 on the season while the Lumberjacks fell to 0-6.

UCI travels to fourth-ranked UCLA (7-2) Saturday for a 10:00 a.m. match against the Bruins.
