UC Irvine Runs Past Pomona-Pitzer, 80-53

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine received 12 points apiece from Jaron Martin, Eyassu Worku and Tommy Rutherford Friday night in defeating Pomona-Pitzer, 80-53, at the Bren Events Center.

Martin, who scored all of his points in the first half, was 4 of 5 from three-point range in the win as UCI improved to 5-5 on the season.  His four triples Friday evening boost his career total to 129, just one shy of 14th-place Alex Young in the UCI record book.

The 12 points marked a career high for Rutherford and Spencer Rivers registered a career-best four assists.

Ioannis Dimakopoulos added eight points while Jonathan Galloway and Brad Greene collected a team-high five rebounds for the Anteaters, who had a 41-31 advantage on the boards.

Max Hazzard scored seven points and Galloway had six as all 12 Anteater players who saw action scored in the victory.

Micah Elan led the Sagehens (2-4) with 13 points and Daniel Rosenbaum added 10.

The Anteaters, who led 37-22 at halftime, never trailed in the game.

UCI's bench outscored Pomona-Pitzer's reserves, 42-15, and the Anteaters had a 34-12 margin in the paint.

UCI shot 49 percent from the field to 34 percent for the Sagehens as the Anteaters have won 61 of their last 66 games when holding the opposition below 40 percent.

The Anteaters have won 62 of their last 65 games when limiting their opponents to 60 points or less and have been victorious in 50 of their last 61 home contests.

UCI faces five consecutive games away from home beginning Sunday at 12th-ranked Saint Mary's at 5:00 p.m.

Coach Russell Turner's Anteaters play at Nevada Wednesday night at 7:00.
