Women's Basketball Adds Morgan Green for 2017-18 Season

IRVINE, Calif. – UC Irvine women's basketball head coach Tamara Inoue has announced the addition of junior transfer Morgan Green for the 2017-18 season.

"I am thrilled to have a high-caliber player such as Morgan join our program," Inoue said. "She is not only a fierce competitor who can fill up an entire stat sheet, but a quality person who will represent our program and community well."

Green, who will have two years of eligibility remaining, spent the 2015-16 campaign at Michigan State. She started 17 of 32 games played and averaged 4.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists per outing. The 5-foot-7 guard recorded a double-double against Georgia with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while she notched a season-high 12 points vs. Louisville. She also registered a season-best nine assists on two occasions.

Green played her freshman year at Chabot College (Hayward, Calif.) under head coach Mark Anger, who was also her club coach. Green was ranked the second-best junior college player by Dan Olson's College Basketball Report after averaging 22.1 points per game. The San Jose, Calif., native led the league in minutes (1,195), points (729), assists (254) and steals (142). She was named Chabot College's 2014-15 Female Athlete of the Year.

Green graduated from Pacific Collegiate High School in 2014. She missed her senior season due to an injury, but averaged 30.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 6.6 steals per game as a junior. Green was tabbed the Mission Trail Athletic League MVP and the county player of the year. She was ranked 60th in the nation and 12th in her position by ESPN's Hoopgurlz.

"With her athletic ability, Morgan is very effective in transition and can stretch the defense out beyond the arc," Inoue said. "Through my years of experience, you coach players who are good at one thing or another, however, with Morgan's work ethic, she has the ability to be a great scorer, distributor and lock down defender. I expect her to come in and make an immediate impact."

Green will join five incoming freshmen in UC Irvine's 2017-18 recruiting class as Tahlia Garza, Dani Guglielmo, Jordan Sanders, Alexus Seaton and Haleigh Talbert committed during the early signing period.
