UCI hosts a pair of important Big West contests this week beginning with Cal Poly Thursday (Nov. 3) then UC Santa Barbara Saturday (Nov. 5). Both matches begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Bren Events Center.

Both matches will be streamed on ESPN3.

VERSUS THE OPPONENTS

The Anteaters are 24-41 against the Mustangs, dropping the first contest of the year 3-0 after its worst hitting performance of the Big West season.

The Anteaters hit .137 (31-18-95) for the match, while the Mustangs hit .422 (47-9-90). Victoria Dennis led UCI with nine kills, while Shelley Anderson had 22 set assists, five kills, two blocks and a team-high eight digs. Cal Poly's Raeann Greisen hit .700 with a team-high 15 kills. Adlee Van Winden added 14 kills.

Cal Poly is 3-8 overall and 6-4 in the Big West.

The Gauchos are the only Big West team the Anteaters have not faced this season.

UCI trails UCSB, 69-12 in the series records. The Anteaters won both matches last year.

The Gauchos are 14-9 overall and tied 5-5 with UCI in league matches. They will visit UC Davis before coming to Irvine.

UCI enters the week 10-14 overall and 5-5 in the Big West.

WEEKLY REWIND

The Anteaters split a pair of matches last week upsetting Long Beach State, 3-2 then falling to CSUN 3-2.

Against the Forty-Niners, the Anteater block was dominate with a season-high 20 rejections.

Victoria Dennis led UCI with 19 kills, while Harlee Kekauoha had 13 kills, three aces, nine digs and five blocks in the win.

Shelley Anderson had a career night at the net with three solos and five block assists. She also added 50 set assists, a season-high 16 digs, four kills and an ace.

Freshman Makayla Wolfe recorded a career-high 11 block assists and 12 total blocks. Her 11 block assists ranks tied for second in the UCI match records. She also added three kills.

Kekauoha tied her career-high with five aces against CSUN, while leading the team with 13 kills. Libero Luna Tsujimoto tied her career-best with 26 digs versus the Matadors.

NUMBERS GAME

UCI is second in the Big West in aces with a 1.49 average.

Harlee Kekauoha has the most aces in the conference (41). She is second in average 0.44 overall and first in league-matches only (0.64). Her 41 aces are tied for 12th most in a season by an Anteater player.

Kekauoha currently ranks 13th nationally in service aces (41) and 24th in aces per set (0.44). She is one of only nine players in the country with three triple-doubles this season.

Kekauoha is averaging 2.53 kills, 2.16 digs and 0.54 blocks per set.

Victoria Dennis leads the squad with a 3.61 kill average, which ranks fifth among Big West players.

Over the last three matches, setter Shelley Anderson has averaged 10.38 set assists, 2.31 digs and 1.08 blocks. The senior is sixth in the Big West with a 9.01 set assists average.

In the middle, Danielle Geiger leads the team with a 0.81 blocking average to go with a 1.80 kill average.

Libero Luna Tsujimoto is seventh in the Big West in dig average at 3.77. She ranks 20th in UCI digs in a season with 351 and 24th all-time with 779. The junior has recorded digs in double-figuires in each of the last six matches, including a career-best 26 versus CSUN.

Defensive specialist Arden Davis recorded 14 digs last week, catapulting her in to sixth in UCI career digs (1,181) passing head coach Ashlie Hain's 1,175 mark.
