FRESNO, Calif. --- UC Irvine finished fifth in the Nick Watney Invitational that concluded Tuesday at San Joaquin Country Club in Fresno.
The Anteaters shot even-par 284 in the final round to record a 54-hole total of 861. BYU won the title at 853, Nevada and Saint Mary's tied for second at 855 and Cal Poly was fourth at 860 in the 15-team field.
UCI junior David Kim fired a 3-under 68 Tuesday and finished fifth with a three-round score of 2-under 211. Perry Cohen of Saint Mary's was medalist at 208.
Anteater junior Jonathan Young shot a final-round 73 and placed 10th at 213 in the season-opening tournament for UCI.
Sophomore Ramiz Jamal, with a 72 Tuesday, finished 20th at 217, junior Ryan O'Connor (71) placed 26th at 220 and sophomore Chris Parkinson (73) was 52nd at 225.
Freshman Jonathan Kang, competing individually, carded a 1-under 70 in the final round to finish 48th at 224.
Coach Paul Smolinski's Anteaters return to action Oct. 17-18 in the Bill Cullum Invitational at Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley.
