LA JOLLA, Calif. --- Lovre Milos scored five goals while Kyle Trush and Jared Osborn added three each to lead ninth-ranked UC Irvine past No. 14 Loyola Marymount, 17-12, in the Triton Invitational at La Jolla Saturday.
Pablo Carballo and Ryan Warde scored a pair of goals apiece for the 'Eaters in the win to open the team's regular-season schedule.
Dylan Peterson had 16 saves in goal for UCI.
A span of six consecutive goals that bridged the third and fourth quarters propelled UCI from a one-goal lead to a seven-goal margin at 16-9.
The 'Eaters led 8-6 at halftime and were up 10-9 in the third period before launching their six-goal barrage.
Milos scored three times and Warde once to close out the final three minutes of the third quarter for a 14-9 lead.
Warde extended the lead to 15-9 with 6:14 left in the fourth quarter and Carballo's goal at the 5:39 mark put UCI up by seven.
Milutin Mitrovic led the Lions (0-2) with five goals.
"We started quick and kept a good attack the entire game," UCI head coach Marc Hunt said. "We received good, balanced scoring from Lovre, Trush, Osborn, Carballo, Lena, Pfeil and Warde was a major strength.
"Moving forward, we need to be better defensively, but Peterson did have a great game in the cage."
UCI faces USC in an exhibition game at 9:20 a.m. Sunday before taking on 17th-ranked Air Force at 2:40 p.m. Both games will be played at Triton Pool.
