IRVINE, Calif. --- Three fall tournaments and seven more regular-season events beginning in January are included on UC Irvine's 2015-16 men's golf schedule released Thursday.
Coach Paul Smolinski's 'Eaters open the season Oct. 4-6 in the Cabo Del Sol Intercollegiate at the Cabo Del Sol Ocean Course in Los Cabos.
UCI competes in the Bill Cullum Invitational at Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley Oct. 19-20 and closes out the fall portion of the schedule Oct. 29-31 in the Pacific Invitational at the Stockton Golf & Country Club.
The 'Eaters open in 2016 at The Winter Intercollegiate in Beaumont Jan. 25-26 at Oak Valley Golf Club. UCI competes in The Farms Invitational at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe Feb. 8-9.
The Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate is Feb. 19-21 at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, followed by the Del Walker Intercollegiate at Virginia Country Club in Long Beach Feb. 29-March 1.
Barona Creek Golf Club in Lakeside is the destination March 21-22 for the Barona Collegiate Cup.
UCI hosts the 35th Anteater Invitational March 28-29 at El Niguel Country Club in Laguna Niguel before closing out the regular season in the 70th Western Intercollegiate April 11-13 at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz.
The Big West Conference Championship is set for May 2-4 at Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley.
Smolinski, entering his 18th season at UCI, led the 'Eaters to the Big West Conference Tournament championship last season, the seventh in program history.
UCI advanced to an NCAA Regional for the 13th time, competing in the Lubbock (Tex.) Regional where the 'Eaters finished 10th.
Smolinski, eight-time Big West Coach of the Year, welcomes back four of his top five players from last season.
Jacob Schulze, a senior this season, and sophomore David Kim were named to the All-Big West Second Team last season.
Kim had an average of 72.79 with two top-10 finishes and a pair of top-20s. Schulze, who averaged 72.82 through 33 rounds, had one top-10 and thee top-20 showings.
Junior Bryan Shin had an average of 74.13 with one top-10 and four top-20s. Sophomore Jonathan Young had a 74.42 average with one top-10 finish and another top-20.
Two talented freshmen join the Anteater program this year: Ramiz Jamal from Marina High School and Jefferson Kao from Diamond Bar High.
