REDLANDS, Calif. --- UC Irvine scored seven unanswered goals in the second quarter en route to a 19-9 victory over Whittier College in the Inland Empire Classic at Thompson Aquatic Center in Redlands Saturday afternoon.
Ryan Warde, Matt Skinner and Lovre Milos scored three goals apiece for the eighth-ranked 'Eaters, who improved to 4-0 on the season.
Antoine Lena, Kyle Trush, Jack Trush and Miles Kalbus added two goals each while Jared Osborn and Pablo Carballo netted one apiece.
Dylan Peterson had 11 saves in goal during the first half and Byron Rivers made four stops in the second half.
Massimiliano Mirarchi led the 18th-ranked Poets (3-2) with three goals.
Warde's first goal of the game gave UCI a 3-2 lead after one quarter.
Skinner's goal with 7:37 left in the second period propelled the 'Eaters' seven-goal barrage. Milos scored all three of his goals in the quarter and Lena, Jack Trush and Kalbus added single goals.
UCI defeated Redlands, 14-3, earlier Saturday on the strength of a career-high four goals from Carballo.
"We had good-balanced scoring throughout both games," UCI head coach Marc Hunt said. "We still need to tighten up our defense through four quarters of play."
The 'Eaters take on California Baptist Wednesday night at 7:00 in Riverside. UCI competes in the NorCal Tournament at Stanford next weekend, opening against 11th-ranked Princeton Saturday at 9:25 a.m.
