TORONTO, Canada --- Team USA powered through the 2015 Pan American Games dropping Canada, 13-4, in the Gold Medal match to wrap up a fourth straight title in the event on Tuesday.
The Americans rolled through the group stage picking up wins over Mexico, Cuba, and Argentina outscoring them by a combined score of 73-9 to earn a spot in the semifinals.
Team USA continued the trend with a 16-3 win over Brazil to put it back in the championships match, and despite falling behind early, regrouped to defeat Canada, 13-4, to take home Gold.
UC Irvine head coach Dan Klatt is on the staff as an assistant coach, and has been for quite some time which included the squad's Gold Medal performance at the 2012 London Olympics.
The Pan-Am Gold qualified the U.S. team for the 2016 Women's Water Polo Olympic Qualification Tournament to be held in the Netherlands in March of 2016. The tournament features 12 nations that will vie for three Olympic berths as part of the eight-nation field represented in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil.
The next step for the squad is a trip to Kazan, Russia for the FINA World Championships. The tournament starts on July 26 where the U.S. will face Brazil followed by Italy and Japan in the group stage, and runs through August 7 and the Gold Medal Final.
