FULLERTON, Calif. --- UC Irvine earned four first-place finishes in the Big West Challenge at Fullerton Friday night.
Ariel Cheng won the pole vault with a mark of 12-0 ½, Rebecka Miranda captured first in the triple jump at 38-4 ¾ (No. 7 in UCI history), Marisa McGinnis was first in the javelin throw at 140-4 (No. 7 in Anteater history) and Megan George finished first in the 100-meter hurdles in 13.83.
Persis William-Mensah's second-place time of 11.84 in the 100 meters ranks third in the UCI record book and the 4x100 relay of Taisyn Crutchfield, George, Tyra Jones and William-Mensah also placed second in 46.75 at the Titan Track Complex.
UCI's 4x400 relay of Kaulyn Lee-McNeill, George, Lily Trinh and Brenna McNulty posted a second-place time of 3:50.65.
Lauren Ellison finished third in the triple jump at 36-10 ½ and Danika Hitchcock was sixth at 36-2.
Trinh was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in 63.60 and Jones sixth in 64.43. Jones also finished sixth in the 100 hurdles in 14.85.
Madelyn Sando placed sixth in the jump with a height of 4-11 and Aliya Shah was sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 12:17.1.
The Anteaters finished fourth in the team competition with 120.50 points as Long Beach State was first with 187.50.
UCI prepares for a busy schedule next week with the Mt. SAC Relays April 16-18, the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa April 17 and the Beach Invitational at Cerritos College in Norwalk April 17-18.
