Lloyd Sicard Wins at Big West Challenge

 

FULLERTON, Calif. --- Sophomore Lloyd Sicard led UC Irvine with a first-place finish in the Big West Challenge at Fullerton Friday night.

Sicard won the 110-meter hurdles in a meet-record 13.92 at the Titan Track Complex in the 23rd annual competition between UCI, Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach State and UC Santa Barbara.

Kyle Hubbard placed fourth in the 110 hurdles in 14.74 and Cameron Vaca was sixth in 14.83.

Mason Miller finished second in the shot put with a mark of 55-2 ¼ and he was fifth in the discus throw (153-3).  Mike Graf recorded a second-place finish in the long jump at 22-9 ¼.

Matt Dispenza placed third in the high jump at a height of 6-4 ¾ and he was seventh in the triple jump at 42-9 ¾.

The 'Eaters' 4x400 relay of Vaca, Sicard, Duane Solomon and Brandon Howard recorded a third-place time of 3:16.51.

Hubbard finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in 54.35 and Alex Tebbe was fifth in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:56.77 and Riley Martin sixth in 3:59.40.

In the 3,000 meters, Blake Wanser placed fourth in 8:36.65, Izzak Mireles was fifth in 8:37.60 and Nolan Del Valle sixth in 8:39.50.

Kolton Cody had a sixth-place finish of 11.04 in the 100 meters, Howard was sixth in the 200 meters (22.51) and Tommy Newton-Neal sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:36.0).

UCI placed fourth in the team standings with 100 points as Long Beach State won with 222.

The Anteaters have a full slate of action next week with the Mt. SAC Relays April 16-18, the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa April 17 and the Beach Invitational at Cerritos College in Norwalk April 17-18.
