IRVINE, Calif. --- The Black and Blue Rivalry Series was in full effect Friday afternoon in Anteater Tennis Stadium, and the visiting 49ers took advantage of the fervent atmosphere with the 6-1 win.
No. 35 LBSU (8-1, 5-0) landed the doubles point following wins at Nos. 1 and 2. Andrea Duva and Vivien Dvali salvaged the final spot winning 8-5.
Kat Facey continued her winning ways with a straight set, 6-1, 7-5, victory at No. 3 singles to momentarily reel the Niners back in trailing 2-1.
LBSU would earn the clinch with sweeps at Nos. 1 and 2 singles soon thereafter. Dvali and newcomer, Cassidy Branstine, took their matches to a third set, however, Dvali was forced to retire and Branstine's comeback attempt fell short in the third-set tiebreaker.
No. 41 UC Irvine (9-4, 3-1) drops its first conference match of the season. It's back on Thursday, March 12, for a 1:30 p.m. match against Gonzaga
