UCI, PACIFIC MEET IN STOCKTON: UC Irvine (5-2) travels to Stockton to face former Big West Conference member Pacific (1-5) Friday night.
Pacific was in the Big West from 1972-2013 before moving to the West Coast Conference. Friday night is the 82nd meeting in the series, with the Tigers holding a 43-38 lead.
UCI defeated Pacific, 68-50, at the Bren Events Center last season (11/16/14) as Alex Young had 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
'EATERS AT SAINT MARY'S SUNDAY: The Anteaters play at Saint Mary's Sunday with a 4:00 p.m. tip time in Moraga. The Gaels, 4-0 on the season, host UC Davis Friday.
Seven of UCI's eight games in December are on the road. The only home contest is Dec. 18 versus Chapman.
MID-MAJOR POLL: The Anteaters remained at No. 11 in this week's CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll. Gonzaga is first and Saint Mary's is fourth.
UCI FINISHES 6TH IN WOODEN LEGACY: UCI went 1-2 and finished sixth in the DIRECTV Wooden Legacy this past weekend.
The 'Eaters lost to Boise State, 71-64, defeated Boston College, 80-67, and fell to Evansville, 75-56. Senior guard Alex Young averaged 11.3 points and 4.7 assists in UCI's three games. On a basket with 18:40 left in the second half of the fifth-place game against Evansville Sunday, Young reached 1,001 career points.
Junior guard Jaron Martin averaged 10.3 points in the tournament and junior post Ioannis Dimakopoulos 10.0 points.
UC IRVINE NOTES
● UC Irvine has won 50 of its last 52 games when holding the opposition to 60 points or less. The Anteaters are 2-0 in those games this season.
● UCI senior guard Alex Young, with nine points against Evansville last Sunday, has 1,001 career points, becoming the 25th player in Anteater history to reach 1,000.
● Young ranks second all-time at UCI with 447 assists, 28 behind Raimonds Miglinieks, who registered 475 assists in his Anteater career.
● Young, in his third year as a team captain, is seventh in UCI history with 113 steals. He had a career-high nine rebounds in the Nov. 23 win over Santa Clara.
● Junior guard Luke Nelson ranks 11th in Anteater history with 133 threes and he is 16th with 248 assists. Nelson leads UCI in scoring at 12.3 points per game this season.
● Junior center Mamadou Ndiaye has 148 blocked shots and is shooting 67 percent from the field in his UCI career. His 148 rejections are tied for 10th in Big West Conference history.
● Senior forward Mike Best, who averaged 3.4 points and 2.2 rebounds last season, is averaging 10.1 points and 5.4 boards this season.
● Russell Turner, in his sixth season as UCI's head coach, needs five wins to reach 100 in his tenure with the Anteaters.
● In the NCAA statistics, as of Wednesday, UCI ranks 23rd nationally in assist/turnover ratio (1.61), 38th in field-goal percentage defense (.376) and 42nd in assists per game (17.0).
● Alex Young ranks 11th in the nation in assist/turnover ratio (5.5) and Mamadou Ndiaye is 17th in total blocks with 17.
