IRVINE, Calif. --- Solid defense propelled seventh-ranked UC Irvine to an 11-3 win over San Jose State in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game at Anteater Aquatics Complex Saturday.
The 'Eaters held the Spartans scoreless for nearly the first 15 minutes of the game in improving to 13-9 overall and 2-5 in the MPSF.
Two goals by Lovre Milos and one each from Pablo Carballo and Matt Skinner put UCI up 4-0 after one quarter.
Skinner and Ryan Warde notched goals in the second period before Igor Miljan put the Spartans on the board with 1:05 remaining as UCI took a 6-1 halftime lead.
Consecutive goals by Carballo, Milos, Jared Osborn and Milos again lifted the 'Eaters' lead to 10-1 in the third before SJSU's Zachary Scudder scored with 22 seconds left to make it 10-2 UCI entering the final period.
Cade Baldridge scored for the Spartans (3-22, 0-8) with 5:00 remaining and Brock Ivancovich closed out the scoring for UCI with 2:34 left for the final margin of 11-3.
Milos scored four goals for the 'Eaters and has 10 in the last two games. Senior Dylan Peterson had 13 saves in goal for UCI, giving him 512 in his Anteater career.
UCI travels to fourth-ranked USC Sunday for an MPSF game at 1:00 p.m. against the Trojans.
