UCI HOSTS SANTA CLARA MONDAY:  UC Irvine (3-0) hosts Santa Clara (0-4) Monday night to begin a week of DIRECTV Wooden Legacy action.

Monday night's game is tied to the tournament that begins in earnest Thursday.

Coach Russell Turner's Anteaters face Boise State Thursday at 1:00 p.m. (ESPNU) at Cal State Fullerton's Titan Gym.  Santa Clara will meet Arizona in the last game of the day at 8:30 p.m.

THE SERIES:  Monday night marks just the third meeting in the series between UCI and Santa Clara, and the first in 10 years.

The Anteaters won 70-58 at Santa Clara Dec. 14, 2004, and UCI was victorious in the Bren Events Center the following season, 78-70, Nov. 22, 2005.


BEST START IN 33 YEARS:
  UCI, 3-0, after its 61-60, overtime win at UCF last Wednesday night, is off to the program's best start since the 1982-83 team opened the season 5-0.


IN THE BREN EVENTS CENTER:
  UCI, 2-0 at home this season, has won 38 of its last 46 games (.826) in the Bren Events Center and is 232-152 all-time.

The Bren Events Center opened Jan. 8, 1987, when the 'Eaters defeated Utah State, 118-96, on the strength of 43 points by Scott Brooks.


BE BACK IN DECEMBER: 
After Monday night's game, UCI will play away from home for seven straight contests before hosting Chapman Dec. 18.


HOLIDAY TOY DRIVE:
Fans are encouraged to donate a new teddy bear, other stuffed animals and toys during the holiday season to help comfort children receiving care at the UC Irvine Medical Center and other Orange County children's organizations.

The donation should be unwrapped and can be dropped off at the Wells Fargo Stagecoach in front of the Bren Events Center.  Fans will also have the chance to have a photo taken with Peter the Anteater.

Toys will be delivered to the UCI Medical Center Dec. 10.


PETER'S 50TH BIRTHDAY:
  UCI will be celebrating Peter the Anteater's 50th birthday Monday.


STATS LEADERS: 
Junior guard Luke Nelson leads the 'Eaters in scoring at 14.7 points per game and also in steals with six.  He and senior guard Alex Young are tied for the team lead with 14 assists each.

Senior forward Mike Best is averaging 13.3 points and 6.0 rebounds.

UCI is averaging 75.7 points per game and limiting the opposition to 62.0.  The 'Eaters are shooting 48.2 percent from the field to the opponents' 33.5 percent.

UC IRVINE NOTES

● UC Irvine senior guard Alex Young needs 41 points to become the 25th player in Anteater history to score 1,000 career points.

● Young ranks second all-time at UCI with 428 assists, 47 behind Raimonds Miglinieks, who registered 475 assists in his Anteater career.

● Young is tied for seventh in UCI history with 109 steals.  Malachi Edmond also registered that number from 1997-2001.

● Junior guard Luke Nelson ranks 13th in Anteater history with 127 threes.

● Junior center Mamadou Ndiaye has 141 blocked shots and is shooting 68 percent from the field in his UCI career.

● Russell Turner, in his sixth season as UCI's head coach, needs seven wins to reach 100 in his tenure with the Anteaters.

● UCI has won 50 of its last 52 games when holding the opposition to 60 points or less and was 15-2 in those games last season.
