UC Irvine Starts Quickly, Defeats SJSU, 14-9

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --- Juniors Kyle Trush and Lovre Milos, and sophomore Matt Skinner, scored four goals each as seventh-seeded UC Irvine defeated No. 10 seed San Jose State, 14-9, in the opening game of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament at USC Friday morning.

The Anteaters (15-10) scored the game's first six goals and held off a Spartans' threat in the second quarter as San Jose State (3-24) scored five consecutive goals to close within 6-5.

Trush then scored with 32 seconds left to make it a 7-5 UCI lead at halftime.

Trush (3:06) and Skinner (2:18) opened the scoring in the third quarter before a Spartan goal closed the lead to 9-6.

UCI goals from Skinner, Trush, Pablo Carballo and Milos to begin the fourth quarter extended the lead to 13-6 and the 'Eaters cruised from there.

With the victory, UCI advances to face second-seeded Pacific Friday afternoon at 2:30.
