UC Irvine Defeats Pepperdine 12-11 In Regular Season Finale

Irvine Calif. –UC Irvine held off Pepperdine for a 12-11 victory in the regular-season finale at the Anteater Aquatics Center Friday.

The Anteaters (14-10 3-6) used four third period goals, three by Lovre Milos to take a 9-8 lead. UCI continued the momentum to start the final period, as Pablo Carballo recorded a goal at 7:03. Milos then scored two more at 6:20 and 5:40 to extend the UCI lead to 12-8. Pepperdine (11-13, 1-7) would try to rally, scoring three goals late in the game, the last with 1:12 to play to narrow the margin to 12-11. UCI failed to get a shot off on their final possession giving the Waves a chance to tie, but Dylan Peterson blocked a shot with 21 seconds remaining to secure the victory.

UCI junior Lovre Milos scored five goals, all in the second half to lead all players. Senior Kyle Trush added three goals, while senior Pablo Carballo had two goals. Sophomore Ryan Warde and senior Larson Pfeil each recorded a goal.

Goalkeeper Dylan Peterson recorded seven saves in the victory, including a penalty shot in the second period.

Pepperdine was led by Spencer Lupin with three goals followed by Mark Urban, Christopher Dilworth and Artak Arzumanyan with two goals apiece. Marko Asic and Sean Thomas each scored a goal. Kyle Krutenat tallied six saves.

Seventh-ranked UCI will compete at the MPSF Championship beginning Nov. 20.
