UC Irvine (0-1) will participate in the 21st Outrigger Resorts Invitational Thursday (Jan. 8), Friday (Jan. 9) and Sunday (Jan. 11) at the Stan Sheriff Center.

UCI will take on No. 3 Penn State Thursday at 4:00 p.m., battle No. 14 Ohio State Friday at 4:00 p.m. and end with No. 10 Hawaii on Sunday at 5:00 p.m.

Sunday's match against host Hawaii is a non-conference match.

This year will be UC Irvine's debut in the tournament, while Outrigger veteran and two-time tournament champion Penn State returns for its 20th appearance. Ohio State will make its sixth appearance with a 3-12 tournament record. The Rainbow Warriors have won six tourney titles and finished runner-up last season.

UCI leads Penn State (7-4) and Ohio State (4-3) in the series records, but trails Hawaii 29-19 all-time.

UCI beat Hawaii twice last season in Honolulu.

The Nittany Lions, who open the year against the Anteaters, wrapped up the 2014 season with a 25-7 record and an appearance in the NCAA national semifinals where they lost to eventual champion Loyola-Chicago.

Ohio State enters the tournament with a 3-0 record, while Hawaii is 1-0 to begin the year.
