UCI BACK HOME TO HOST CAL POLY, UCSB: UC Irvine (11-8, 4-1) returns to the Bren Events Center this week to host Cal Poly (10-8, 3-3) Thursday and UC Santa Barbara (10-9, 3-2) Saturday in Big West Conference games at 7:00 p.m.
Coach Russell Turner's Anteaters, with a win at Hawai'i last Saturday night, moved into a tie for first place in the Big West with Long Beach State and UC Davis.
HOMECOMING SATURDAY: Saturday is Homecoming at UCI, currently in its 50th year. The 'Eaters, who are 3-0 in Big West road games, have five of their next seven contests at home.
WIN STREAK AT 4: The Anteaters have won their last four games, including a road sweep at CSUN (80-49) and Hawai'i (78-72) last weekend.
The win over CSUN was UCI's largest margin of victory over an NCAA Division I school since a 33-point win over Harvard (81-48) Dec. 28, 2006, and the largest margin of victory in a Big West game for the Anteaters since a 92-54 win at Idaho Jan. 12, 2002.
SERIES RECORDS: UCI leads the series with Cal Poly, 24-21. The 'Eaters won both regular-season meetings last season, but were knocked out of the Big West Tournament by the Mustangs (61-58) in the semifinals at the Honda Center last March.
UCI trails the series with UCSB, 49-32. The teams have split each of the last two seasons, winning on their respective home courts both years.
DEFEND THE BREN: UC Irvine has won 31 of its last 38 games (.816) in the Bren Events Center and is 144-54 (.727) dating back to February 2000.
