UC Irvine Falls, 4-0, at No. 4 UCLA

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --- The Anteaters finished off a brutal opening stretch with a 4-0 defeat to the fourth-ranked Bruins who opened their 2015 campaign at the Los Angeles Tennis Center Wednesday afternoon.

Doubles play was well-contested with UCLA (1-0) taking Nos. 2 and 3 doubles by 6-4 scores to secure the opening point. Jonathan Hammel and Tyler Pham teamed up as the No. 1 duo playing No. 11 Mackenzie McDonald and Martin Redlicki close before their match was interrupted.

Singles saw a pair of 'Eaters fall to ranked opponent. McDonald, ranked No. 7 in singles, swept Nico Mertens at No. 1 while No. 90 Austin Rapp did the same at No. 5 to Hammel.

The 'Eaters (2-5) have now dropped three straight matches, all to ranked opponents, as they depart on a two-week hiatus before returning to Los Angeles for a Saturday afternoon match at No. 1 USC on February 7.
