LA JOLLA, Calif. --- Sophomore Lovre Milos made quite a UC Irvine debut in leading the eighth-ranked Anteaters past Loyola Marymount, 11-6, in the Triton Invitational at La Jolla Saturday.

Milos, a transfer from UCLA, scored five goals to lift UCI in its season opener at Triton Pool on the UC San Diego campus.  Jacob Mourer added a pair of goals and Dylan Peterson had 12 saves in goal.

The game was tied 1-1 after one quarter before the 'Eaters scored three unanswered goals by Mourer, Milos and Ryan Warde to begin the second quarter and eventually led 4-2 at halftime.

Milos, Justin Papa and Mourer scored third-quarter goals as UCI extended the lead to 7-4 entering the final frame.

Milos scored twice in the fourth period with single goals registered by Larson Pfeil and Matt Skinner to secure the victory.

"It was good to get the win over LMU, however our offensive execution was mediocre at best," said 10th-year UCI head coach Marc Hunt.  "We missed many high percentage opportunities.  It was good to see Lovre get going, but we are going to have to execute much smarter.

"Defensively, I felt (Kyle) Trush, Skinner, and Larson did a good job dealing with LMU's center.  Peterson in the cage had a strong outing, and really was the reason why we could stretch the lead.  He did a great job."

UCI continues action in the invitational at 4:00 p.m. Saturday against Claremont-Mudd-
Scripps.
