Aurora, Ore. -- Sophomore Samantha Chan had her best collegiate showing with a third place finish at the Rose City Collegiate held at the Langdon Farms Golf Club.
Chan, who was tied for the lead after 51 holes, ended the day with a round of 75 and recorded a career-best score of 218 over 54 holes. On Monday, Chan posted career-bests for 18 (70) and 36 holes (143). The sophomore recorded eight birdies over three rounds.
The Anteaters tied for fourth with host Portland State, shooting a 903 (304-294-305) at the season-opening event. Cal State Fullerton won the tournament (890), followed by San Francisco (893) and Boise State (899). Cal State Fullerton's Tisha Alyn Abrea won medalist honors with a 215.
As a team, UCI totaled 34 birdies which was second most among the 13-team field.
UCI freshman Joo Youn Seo was12th with a three round score of 225 (76-73-76), posting a top 20 finish in her first collegiate tournament. Sophomore Kaley In was tied for 20th at 229 (77-74-78) and freshman Kelsey Kawaguchi was tied for 40th with a total of 234 (81-77-76). Junior Kristin Henno was tied for 56th at 239 (78-79-82).
