No. 1 UCLA Takes Down UC Irvine, 3-0

Box Score

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --- Top-ranked UCLA scored a 3-0 victory over the Anteaters Sunday night at Drake Stadium.

The defending champs have started just where they left off taking each match on the weekend and did not surrender until Cami Privett's attempt with the keeper out in the 88th minute that sailed high.

UCI (0-2-0) threatened a few times, most notably on a Clarissa Robles free kick that Bruin keeper Katelyn Rowland intercepted just before reaching its target, Laura McGrail midway through the second half.

UCLA (2-0-0) scored in each half starting with the game-winner from Taylor Smith in the 29th minute as she buried a shot into the upper right corner after driving into the box.

Sam Mewis put home a rebound off Jenn Randazzo's initial save in the 78th minute. Darian Jenkins capped off the scoring in the 84th minute stuffing home a shot after Mewis' initial shot smacked the crossbar.

Randazzo finished the match with six saves. Alana Sooy was also credited with a save after disposing of a ball from the endline early in the second half.

UCI continues its road trek as it heads to Alabama to face Auburn (Fri. Aug. 29) and Indiana (Sun. Aug. 31) in the Auburn Soccer Classic. Friday's match will be featured on the SEC Network.
