IRVINE, Calif. --- Andrew Morales and Sam Moore collected Collegiate Baseball "Louisville Slugger" All-America honors for their standout performances on the mound in 2014.
Morales, named Big West Pitcher of the Year, finished the regular season 9-2 with a 1.56 earned run average. The right-hander earned a spot on the All-America first-team after going undefeated for most of the year at 9-0 and at one point logged a 31.1 scoreless inning streak. With 119 strikeouts, Morales is ranked seventh in the country and he is holding teams to a .183 batting average. Morales has allowed 71 hits in 109.1 innings pitched to sit 13th in the country in hits allowed per nine innings and his ERA ranks 29th in the nation. Morales, who was a Collegiate Baseball second-team selection in 2013, is a candidate for the Dick Howser Trophy, Golden Spikes Award and National Pitcher of the Year.
Moore was voted a second-tema All-America after posting a nation-leading 23 saves. In his first year as the team's closer, Moore has erased the UC Irvine and Big West Conference single-season records of 17 and 20, respectively, and is one save from tying the NCAA mark of 24, set in 2010. He owns a 1.90 ERA and has struck out 38 batters in 42.2 innings. Also a right-hander, Moore is also in contention for the National Pitcher of the Year and Stopper of the Year awards as well as the Gregg Olson Award. Moore has logged 30 appearances while allowing just nine earned runs. The All-America honor is the first for Moore.
The Anteaters will make their eighth NCAA post-season appearance Friday in the Corvallis Regional. UCI takes on UNLV at 2:00 p.m.
