IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine junior Itos Aikhionbare has earned a repeat as Big West Conference Field Athlete of the Week after breaking the school record in the discus throw.

She set a UCI record for the second consecutive Saturday, breaking her own mark in the discus with a throw of 170-2 (51.86m) at the Oxy Invitational this past weekend.  She was the top collegiate finisher in the event and fourth overall.  That mark eclipsed the record of 169-5 that she recorded last year.

Aikhionbare, who set the Anteater record in the shot put May 3, won that event at Oxy Saturday with a mark of 52-4 ¾ (15.97m).

She ranks first in the Big West this season in the shot put (53-9) and discus (170-2).  Aikhionbare is No. 6 in the West Region in the shot put and 29th in the discus.

This is the second straight week that she has claimed the Big West weekly honor, the third time this season and sixth in her career.

Aikhionbare and her UCI teammates compete in the Big West Track & Field Championships Friday and Saturday at UC Davis.
