OPENING SPRINTS
UC Irvine has three players with triple-digit career goals: Jessy Cardey (205), Hannah Croghan (148) and Danielle Warde (141).
McKenna Mitchell became the sixth Anteater with six goals in a match joining current 'Eaters Jessy Cardey and Hannah Croghan, and Erica Horman's seven-goal match from 2002.
Four Anteaters currently have 30+ goals led by Danielle Warde's 43. McKenna Mitchell also has 41 and is joined by Jessy Cardey (39) and Hannah Croghan (34) in the 30-goal club.
UCI has failed to score in seven periods all season. It averages 11.1 goals per match.
UCI is allowing 6.28 goals per match including a 3.58 goals-against-average from Annika Nelson in 170 minutes.
Jillian Yocum stands unofficially with 590 career saves, third all-time.
POWER PLAYS
UC Irvine's win over No. 4 Arizona State matched the highest-ranked opponent UCI has defeated in the program's history. The 'Eaters upset No. 4 Hawaii in February of 2007, 10-4.
UCI had its highest finish in the UC Irvine Invitational finishing sixth.
The Anteaters have three wins in which they needed to overcome a halftime deficit. UCI beat UC Davis 8-5 after trailing 3-2 at the half, defeated SDSU 13-6 after trailing 5-4, and most recently came back from down 2-1 at Hawai'I to win 9-5.
KICKOUTS
UC Irvine captured Big West Player of the Week five times so far with Danielle Warde, Hannah Croghan, Jillian Yocum, and McKenna Mitchell twice.
The Anteaters began the season ranked sixth in the nation and have been ranked as high as fifth. UCI finished 2013 ranked seventh in the nation with a record of 21-9.
UCI captured a share of the Big West regular season title in 2013, its fourth to match the four Big West Tournament titles.
HEADING WEST
Big West play heats up as the Anteaters spring out to Santa Barbara and Northridge looking to claim the top spot heading into the final weeks of regular season play.
UCI travels to 15th-ranked UC Santa Barbara on Saturday for a noon match. The Gauchos are 1-1 in Big West play with a win at UC Davis and one-goal loss to Hawai'i. UCI and UCSB have not met yet this season, and the Gauchos are 10-12 after a 20-15 record in 2013 where the Gauchos finished sixth of eight in the Big West. The schools have met more than once in each season except for 2005 and 2007.
The Gauchos have kept it close this season playing in 10 matches decided by three goals or less. One-goal matches have included wins over Cal Baptist and San Diego State, and losses to San Jose State, UC Davis, and Hawai'i.
UCSB is led by junior Lauren Martin and Jessie Porter on offense. Mackenzie Brokaw has compiled 102 saves throughout the season.
The 'Eaters venture to seventh-ranked Cal State Northridge on Sunday. The Matadors and 'Eaters will battle for the top spot in the conference with each school sitting at 2-0.
The 21-6 Matadors have some good results including narrow losses against UCLA and Cal along with one-goal wins over LBSU and LMU while also posting a loss to Cal Baptist and a 13-0 shutout loss to USC.
UCI and CSUN met in the UCI Invitational which went into overtime before the 'Eaters scored the 7-6 victory.
The Big West play, CSUN dropped UC Davis by three and most-recently erased a four-goal deficit to defeat Hawai'i in overtime, 9-8.
CSUN's goals leader with 58 is Marisa Young. Lindsy Duncan and Kelcie Ferreira have reached the 40-goal mark. Duncan also comes in with 38 assists and 24 field blocks to lead the team while Ferreira's 73 steals and 25 exclusions earned lead all Matadors.
Kiernan Davis have played 724 of the 888 minutes with a 6.89 goals-against-average to her name as well as 171 saves.
