Itos is Double-Dynamic for Third Straight Week

 

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine junior Itos Aikhionbare won the shot put and discus throw in the Spring Break Invitational Saturday, the third consecutive week she has accomplished the double feat.

She had a mark of 50-10 ¼ to finish first in the shot put and 156-7 for victory in the discus throw at Anteater Stadium. 

Freshman Megan George won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.94, the fifth-fastest in UCI history.

Another freshman, Ariel Cheng, earned first place in the pole vault at 12-5 ½ as she improved on her No. 2 mark in the Anteater record book.

Chelsea Schneider (2:14.96) and Lauren Hall (2:15.95) finished 3-4 in the 800 meters.

Ericka Nowell was third in the 400-meter hurdles in 60.09 and Kaulyn Lee-McNeill placed fifth in 62.45.

Saniya Syed finished fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 57.65 and Melanie Speech was fourth in the javelin throw at 120-3.

UCI's 4x400 relay of Nowell, George, Megan Benson and Paige Bushnell finished third with a time of 3:51.57. 

The 4x100 relay of Charity Lyons, Benson, Speech and Bushnell placed fifth in 47.87.

UCI finished third in the eight-team meet with 114 ½ points.  Northern Arizona won the team title with 155 ½ and Cal State Fullerton was second with 119 points.

The Anteaters compete in the UC Riverside Spring Classic Thursday through Saturday (Mar. 27-29).
