Itos Aikhionbare is Double-Winner Again

 

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine junior Itos Aikhionbare won two events for the second straight week in the Anteater Four-Way Meet at Anteater Stadium Saturday in the home opener against Long Beach State, Purdue and Cerritos College.

Aikhionbare, the reigning Big West Conference Field Athlete of the Week, earned titles in the shot put with a mark of 51- 4 ½ and in the discus throw at 161-5.

Kaulyn Lee-McNeill captured first place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 60.81 that ranks seventh in UCI history.  Paige Bushnell finished second in 62.39.

Ericka Nowell was second in the 400 meters in 55.57, the No. 5 time in the Anteater record book. 

Ariel Cheng placed second in the pole vault at 11-9 and another second-place finish was registered by UCI's 4x100 relay of Charity Lyons, Megan Benson, Melanie Speech and Bushnell with a time of 48.19.

Megan George was third in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.12, the seventh-fastest time in school history. 

Marie Brashears finished third in the 800 meters in 2:14.49 and Tiana Carter placed third in the long jump with a mark of 17-11.

The 4x400 relay of Nowell, George, Brashears and Bushnell) finished third with a time of 3:48.65.

Bridget Devaney's fourth-place mark of 161-10 in the hammer throw is third-best in UCI history.  Colleen Lillig was fourth in the 3,000 meters in 10:13.77 and Madelyn Sando placed fourth in the high jump at 4-11.

UCI remains home next week to host the Spring Break Invitational Friday and Saturday at Anteater Stadium.
