IRVINE, Calif. --- Friday afternoon's Big West opener at Anteater Tennis Stadium went to Cal Poly, a 6-1 defeat of the UC Irvine Anteaters.

The teams were even in doubles with each squad taking a set before the Mustangs broke through with a tiebreaker-win at No. 2 for the doubles point.

Cal Poly (1-7, 1-0) shot out for three early points in singles to put the match away. Jonathan Hammel rallied for a three-set win to get UC Irvine (2-8, 0-1) on the board late, but it wasn't enough.

The 'Eaters get back on the court Wed. Feb. 26 to travel to Pepperdine for a 1:00 p.m. match.
