IRVINE, Calif. --- Zach La Cavera's efforts in upset-wins over No. 5 USC and No. 3 Pepperdine shone through to give him Buffalo Wild Wings Anteater of the Week honors.
The junior opposite was named Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week as well as MPSF Player of the Week after averaging 4.25 kills, 0.38 aces, and 4.94 points per set last week. The No. 9 Anteaters scored a five-set upset over then-No. 5 USC and followed it with a lovely sweep of No. 3 Pepperdine on Valentine's Day. La Cavera hammered 17 kills to lead UCI in both matches.
On the season, La Cavera leads the Anteaters averaging 3.58 kills per set which ranks ninth in the MPSF and 19th in the country. He also ranks 14th nationally in aces (0.42) and points (4.36).
UCI is back on the court twice this week with road matches Wed. Feb. 19, at No. 6 Long Beach State, and Fri. Feb. 21, at No. 15 Cal State Northridge.
