PALO ALTO, Calif. --- UCI opened the Stanford Invitational with a 9-4 win in a rematch of the Big West final in 2013 dropping the sixth-ranked Rainbow Wahine Saturday morning.
UC Irvine (5-0) held firm from the start allowing just one first-half goal to Hawaii (2-1). The Anteaters would bury six in the second half to pull away for the 9-4 victory.
Three seniors led the scoring with a pair each from Annika Bergesen, Jessy Cardey, and Hannah Croghan. Keeper Jillian Yocum recorded her third double-digit save effort of the year with 10.
UCI continues play later on Saturday with a 3:15 tilt with another Big West foe, UC Davis.
