IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine didn't let its absence in the Big West Tournament deter it from making a mark on the all-conference squad with eight players taking nine spots on the coveted team.
A pair of seniors led the way on the first team in Laura McGrail and Cami Privett. McGrail led all 'Eaters with 10 goals, also tied for second-most in the conference, four of them game-winners, and 23 points. Privett contributed with a pair of goals and four assists while running the show in the midfield. McGrail reached first team-status for the second time while Privett scored her first first-team honor after making second team as a freshman when she was Big West Freshman of the Year.
UCI's lone second team standout was defender Clarissa Robles. The junior joined the squad late this summer after a stint with the Mexican under-20 women's world cup squad, and brought her game with her finishing the season with eight assists, third-most in the conference, while manning the backline to three shutouts. The honor was the first of her career.
Four Anteaters scored honorable mention accolades including veterans Jenna Pellegrino, Alana Sooy, and Bianca Frontino. Pellegrino was the only of the trio to make the squad before this season earning second-team honors last season. She put up a goal and an assist in her final season while Frontino added a pair of goals including a dramatic game-winner over UCSB. Sooy solidified the backline and even recorded her first collegiate point via assist.
The upstart on the honorable mention list was freshman Alex Karlowitsch. She had a hand in all 19 matches making four starts, and really came on late with three assists in the final three matches. She posted five on the season, second on the squad, adding a goal in the first home match of the season while adding energy and plenty of tact.
Her play earned her a spot on the All-Freshman team as well, and was joined by forward Kiana Palacios making it the first time two 'Eaters made the freshman squad joining Sammie James and Haley O'Brien from years past. Palacios made an instant impact with goals in three consecutive matches coming in her first four caps of her career. Palacios finished second on the squad with four goals and nine points adding an assist as well.
This marks the second straight season with seven players on the All-Big West squad and fourth time in the last five seasons. This also marks the ninth time with multiple first-teamers and fifth straight season.
The 'Eaters finished the regular season at 7-9-3, 3-4-1 in Big West play finishing in a tie for fifth with UC Riverside.
