UC Irvine makes its home debut Wednesday (Nov. 19) hosting Pepperdine at 7:00 p.m. The Anteaters will take on San Jose State Saturday (Nov. 22) at 2:00 p.m. Both games will be held at the Bren Events Center.
UCI trails Pepperdine 20-13 in the series records, dropping the last contest 76-59 in Malibu on Nov. 14, 2013.
The Waves enter the game with a 0-1 record after losing at No. 16 Nebraska 100-65 last week. Ea Shoushtari led Pepperdine with 19 points.
UCI leads San Jose State, 16-10 in the series records, but the Spartans have won the last two meetings. The last time the teams met was Nov. 23, 2004 with SJSU taking a 54-52 victory at the Bren.
The Spartans were members of the Big West Conference from 1986-1996.
SJSU is 1-1 overall, but will travel to UC Riverside Thursday before taking on the Anteaters. The Spartans lost 100-87 in overtime at Utah then defeated Columbia 119-76 at home. In the win over Columbia, the Spartans' 119 points, 42 free throws and San José State and Columbia's 69 combined free throws set records in the Mountain West Conference. San José State set team records for points, free throws and free throw attempts (53). In addition, The Event Center records for points, combined points (195), free throws and free throw attempts fell. The marks for field goals (35) and field goal attempts (89) in the arena by the Spartans were equaled.
San Jose State is averaging 103.0 points per game, while the Anteaters are averaging 44.5.
UCI went 1-1 on the opening road trip, losing to Northern Arizona, 66-35 then beating Grand
Canyon, 54-53.
Forward Mokun Fajemisin had a career-high 21 points and a season-best seven rebounds in the win over Grand Canyon.
Fajemisin hit a pair of free throws with six seconds remaining to secure victory.
Raelyn Cheung-Sutton scored seven of her career-high nine points in the last 20 minutes against the Antelopes. She also grabbed a career-best five rebounds to go with three assists in the win.
The Anteaters shot 85.7 percent (12-14) from the free throw line, hitting 12-13 in the second half.
Redshirt freshman Brittany Glassow led the Anteaters in the loss at Northern Arizona with nine points and six rebounds.
It was the largest margin of defeat for UCI since the Anteaters lost 76-36 at Cal Poly on March 3, 2013.
It was the fewest points scored in a game since UCI totaled 24 in a loss to UC Davis on Feb. 12, 2009.
After hitting 15 three-pointers over two exhibition games, the Anteaters have managed to record just three in the first two regular season contests.
UCI has been out-rebounded 105-66 in the first two games of the season.
Fajemisin leads the team in scoring and is ranked seventh in the Big West in points per game at 12.0.
The Anteaters ranked third among Big West teams in scoring defense (59.5) and second in field goal percentage defense (.311).
